LIGHTHOUSE ANCHORING INSTRUCTIONS
No matter where you decide to place your lighthouse, you want it to be secure. Instuctions for anchoring your lighthouse in different locations with various materials are shown below.
WOODEN BOAT DOCK OR DECK
Screw through the wooden base of the lighthouse with galvanized screws or lag bolts into any solid wooden foundation.
GARDEN OR YARD
Pre-drill two 3/8" pilot holes into the wooden base of the lighthouse. Dig a hole 4" deep and approximately 6-8" wider than the base diameter of your lighthouse. Mix 2 bags of Sak-Crete concrete with water (per the directions on the bag). Allow at least 24hrs for the concrete to harden. Center the lighthouse on the concrete pad and place two pencil marks through the pilot holes of the wooden base. Remove the lighthouse and use a ½" masonry bit and drill two hole approximately 3" in depth. Embed the 3/8" anchor nuts in the concrete and attach the lighthouse using 3" galvanized lag bolts and washers.
Or TRY OUR "NEW" ROCK BASE
DO- IT -YOUR- SELF BASE for LARGER LIGHTHOUSES
This base was made for an 8' Assateague Lighthouse. The base was made using 8" retaining wall blocks, mortar, mesh wire (chicken wire), concrete mix and coloring, and concrete caulking.
The lighthouse base is 43" diameter at the bottom, 39" diameter at the top, and 15" high with a 37" diameter 2 3/4" thick concrete slab on top. These dimensions can be adjusted according to the size of the lighthouse you are going to put on the base. The base of the 8' Lighthouse shown in the picture is a 28" octagon.
Materials needed to build this base as shown are: 55 - 8" retaining wall blocks, 2 - 80# bags Quickrete, 1 bottle of concrete coloring, 1 tube of concrete caulk, 4 - concrete nuts, 4 - lag bolts (3/8" x 3"), 4 - 3/8 flat
washers.
Once the base was built using the retaining wall blocks, the wire mesh was molded to fit the inside of the base and 3 - 60# bags of mortar mix were used to reinforce the base from the inside. A pedestal for the lighthouse to sit on was build using 2 x 2's and a piece of particle board placed inside of the base even with the top row of blocks. A round concrete slab was poured on top of this pedestal using a garage door bottom rubber to mold the concrete slab being sure that the slab was big enough for the lighthouse to sit on with a little extra space around the base of the lighthouse. Be sure to level this concrete slab. The base was then drilled for the 3/8" lag bold concrete nuts and the lighthouse base for the 3/8" x 3 lag bolts. Flat 3/8 washers need to be put between the bolt head and the wooden lighthouse base. . Additional washers may be plased under the wooden
base to level the lighthouse if your slab was not quite level. Caulking can be primed and painted if needed to put around the lighthouse base to finish the base. If you need additional details in building this base, please call us at 864-592-5128.
